so, as a psyc major, I have to ask, does the impulse to pinch my cheeks come from the ID, instant gratification, or do you think its socially and morally acceptable to pinch a check as your ego and super ego seemed to not mind? Also which school of psycology do you put more stock in, The Freudian method, Adler theroy, or the the theroies of Karen Horney dealing with personality, and healthy relationships?

The impulse derives from my Id. My superego makes sure that you might be a person who wouldn't mind, and my ego says 'ok - do eeet.' As for schools of thought, I like Adler - he's almost eclectic as he brings so much into account. I also like RET a lot. However Horney is also really interesting with her "touchy-feely" approach - and has a great name lol.

I find that Freud brings up some good points on why we do some of the things we do, however his focus is alittle more then I like. I too like Adler for his more in depth approach, but I really don't like Karen's approach as it is very sexist, however, it was made in a time of great sexism. She was even drummed out of the New York Psychoanalytic Institute for her beliefs that a womans place isn't the home and that women that compete with men in the work place just have $%&* envey. So I can understand her reasoning.

In college, someone, mocking Freud, wrote a paper sounding all official about vag..... envy. It posed that men carry satchels and bags to try to replicate it. tongue
