| I started this section for you to be able to share your own poetry, or favorite poetry.
I have a favored author who I was sharing with a friend recently. I even had some of his writings read at my wedding. He eloquently brings so much wisdom into a few words.
This is from The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran:
On Children Kahlil Gibran
Your children are not your children. They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself. They come through you but not from you, And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.
You may give them your love but not your thoughts, For they have their own thoughts. You may house their bodies but not their souls, For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams. You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you. For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.
You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth. The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite, and He bends you with His might that His arrows may go swift and far. Let your bending in the archer's hand be for gladness; For even as He loves the arrow that flies, so He loves also the bow that is stable.

| Where is the Love In a world gone cold and people full of hate I often ponder how the world got to this state I see the death, the greed, the compasity for violence makes me ask myself do any of us stand a chance but we keep doing what we always do no one seems to care what is just and true no more heroes to show us the way no one left to help save the day the pain I see I wish to be free of which begs the question "where is the love?" -Kenneth H. Harvey I know it sucks, but I don't see any better here | |

| Luv That is a Beautiful poem and so right its says our children are the future and let them guide the way sounds like a songDrill that Poem is Powerful, but the Author is so wrong There are still heroes, and love is not lost, and the evil has not gotten stronger. It just gets more media attention now.The real heroes are the everyday people who reach out and help because they see a need. They Touch lives and spread hope and love, not for gain, not to be seen, just because that's where the need is. You see those heroes everyday, you walk by them, and rub shoulder to shoulder and may not even see them. If you stop one of them and ask them, "Are you a hero?" they will chuckle and say, "Me? No, I am just a regular guy" If someone attempts to point out thier heroism they simpley and humble say, " I just did what anyone would have done." and he blieves what he is saying. Heroes are not the sports figures making millions of dollars, that's just money. Heroes are not the presidents of big companies, thats just surface power. Heroes are Single mothers whose kids grow up to be happy and respect others, that's a hero. Heroes are dads who take the time to kiss their son good night and whisper, "I love you" as the boy drifts off to sleep, that's a hero. A hero is the friend who when you new in a place and no one will talk to you, walks over to the corner your sitting in and sits across the table sticks out his hand and says, "Hi, Welcome friend", that's a hero.
Heroes are you, all of you, come on look in the mirror. You see it don't you? When I came in this Guild I was the new gnome with the funny name. you folks did not let me sit in the corner and be all alone, every time I signed in guild chat echoed with Hi Woogoo. Within days I had invites to tag alone in dungeons I had no business being in. I had so many offers of help that I could not brlieve it. Now I count all of you as Friends, those are heroes. These sports guys and the presidents sure they change money, they change news. But heroes, they change lives and make them better.<steps down from soapbox> <scuffs shoes>Sorry

| *sniff* Here here Woo! I think it was Ghandi who said, "A good leader inspires others to believe in him. A great leader inspires others to believe in themselves." And thank you for sharing that, Sarge. It reflects pain that a lot of peoplel do feel, kind of "seeing the glass half empty" -- beaten down by disappointments. It also stirs up good conversation! Basically, whatever one focuses on becomes one's reality. "Life is 1% what happens to me, and 99% how I react to it" -- that is overstating it in some cases, but is a very good point. I have had doses of despair, but all in all I have been very lucky to have a nurturing family and close friends over the years....so I know how to look for the positives. I expect them. I search for them in others (most lol). I also believe in a loving God who is constantly working for my and others' good up to the limits of our free will. I try not to be "too" Polyanna, but I figure that if the good and the bad are always going to be there, focusing on the good keeps me going. | |

| On Marriage Kahlil Gibran
You were born together, and together you shall be forevermore. You shall be together when the white wings of death scatter your days. Ay, you shall be together even in the silent memory of God. But let there be spaces in your togetherness, And let the winds of the heavens dance between you.
Love one another, but make not a bond of love: Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls. Fill each other's cup but drink not from one cup. Give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone, Even as the strings of a lute are alone though they quiver with the same music.
Give your hearts, but not into each other's keeping. For only the hand of Life can contain your hearts. And stand together yet not too near together: For the pillars of the temple stand apart, And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other's shadow.

| Where is the Love part II
Heroes around me there are none What point is there when you find no fun In anything you do, it just seems hollow everyday motions you just seem to follow Hopeing one day to find some hope right now trying to find a way to cope with these feelings I feel deep in my chest seems so tired now, just want to rest Alone now and will always be I know now this pain I will never be free I try in vain to climb out of the mud no longer matters "where is the love" ---Kenneth H. | Mr. Harvey is describing the signs of clinical depression....no energy, no hope, feels like it will last forever with no way out, being convinced of things that are often not true, pessimistic thought magnet....such a painful place to be. The nature of the beast is to make one feel too tired or hopeless to get the help and support needed to pull out -- there is so much effective help available.

| Where is the LOVE part III
A single ray of light peers in the dark hope maybe not, but it is a start The once powerful dark is losing its depth I soldier through as I take each new step The light I see might hurt my eyes but helps to show the truth of the lies All is not lost, hope can be found no more for me just lying around Finding joy is hard but is of worth starts with a laugh cause friends of mirth seems some friends are sent from above no more shall I ask "where is the love" ----Kenneth H. Harvey

| The only part of that that sucks is when you said "I know it sucks"! pbpbpb You'd better stop that before I have to open up a can of.... I'm holding it with my finger on the tab ready to pull..... (Pepsi anyone?) That was inspiring, Sarge. Would you mind if I copy it to share with some people I know who could also appreciate it? | |

| That was sweet Sarge However it will not prevent the coming scolding. Hmmm....are you suggesting I would lie to make you feel good? *hands on hips* While you are backpeddling, I will point out that my assessment and your assessment of your poems is quite different; just because you think they are amateurish doesn't mean that's what I think. You do not have to be considered a professional writer or a 'poet's poet' in order to have the gift with words. It is challenging to be able to paint a word picture, putting symbols of big concepts within a few words, and on top of that making the lines rhyme so that it has an easy flow. I grew up playing piano - started when I could barely reach the keys with my fingers and my feet could pump the pedals of the pump organ my parents had. I took lessons in grade school. But I only play when I feel like it, and what skills I have are what came pretty easily -- I never really buckled down to practice a lot and sharpen my skills. I love playing for my own enjoyment. I can't play a piece without mistakes, and I get self conscious when playing in front of people. However people have often said they love to hear me play. I had to accept that they were not concerned with noticing my mistakes -- they just enjoyed the gift of the music. Even if I knew "I could have done better," I learned to try not to rob them of their enjoyment by depreciating their compliments. And, accepting that they had their own experience with the music I played, it gave me pleasure that it gave them pleasure. You're smart - you'll get there. .....even if I have to take that stick you're beating yourself with and beat you with it myself! | |

| On Friendship Kahlil Gibran
Your friend is your needs answered. He is your field which you sow with love and reap with thanksgiving. And he is your board and your fireside. For you come to him with your hunger, and you seek him for peace.
When your friend speaks his mind you fear not the "nay" in your own mind, nor do you withhold the "ay." And when he is silent your heart ceases not to listen to his heart; For without words, in friendship, all thoughts, all desires, all expectations are born and shared, with joy that is unacclaimed. When you part from your friend, you grieve not; For that which you love most in him may be clearer in his absence, as the mountain to the climber is clearer from the plain. And let there be no purpose in friendship save the deepening of the spirit. For love that seeks aught but the disclosure of its own mystery is not love but a net cast forth: and only the unprofitable is caught.
And let your best be for your friend. If he must know the ebb of your tide, let him know its flood also. For what is your friend that you should seek him with hours to kill? Seek him always with hours to live. For it is his to fill your need, but not your emptiness. And in the sweetness of friendship let there be laughter, and sharing of pleasures. For in the dew of little things the heart finds its morning and is refreshed.

| help from a friend Life seems hard, with no one around darkness consumes when no light is found hope becomes pain when you dont have it everything inside just tells you to quit staring into the dark, you see something new a hand seems to be seeking, it reaches for you the warmth is a feeling that you must have forgot a single kind jesture helps out a whole lot in the hands grasp you raise to stand out of the darkness, you see a good friend you look back down, where you once had sit seems so silly now, to even think to quit never give up, you heard it before god opens a window, when he shuts a door these words you knew but never believe but above the darkness you can now look and see these words are true, you can see it clear when someone cares, when someone is near you can see a future now, not just an end you can soilder through now, with the help from a friend ---Kenneth H. Harvey I still say they suck, but whatever | |

| hmmmm good question grasshopper. Maybe my personality is such that I can laugh at myself better then anyone else, and I believe that if you are laughing at me, then you are not laughing at someone else. I took a personality test that said when I am feeling uneasy in a situation, I will be the first one to laugh at myself before anyone else can. Besides, if I can't laugh at myself, I wouldn't have the right to laugh at anyone else. | |
